July: Alanis Morisette is about to have a field day
In which I get physical copies of my solo game and launch my website
My, my, my, another month has flown on by. I’ve been getting up to all sort of hijinks, including having a wonderful time running some mausritter on the D8 Dungeon charity stream. Thanks everyone who tuned in and donated, in the end the event raised $3,340 for Trans Lifeline, which is amazing! If you came to watch, promoted the event, or donated then thank you for your support!
I’ve also been doing lots of behind the scenes work on my projects, some of which I can finally share with you all. I’m going to keep it short and sweet this month, so let’s dive right in!
Physical copies of Lost Post
Ya girl is branching out into the physical realm!
At the start of this year I decided I wanted to get some of my games printed so I started with Lost Post, my solo journaling game about being a letter lost in the postal system.
This was partly because I love having physical copies of solo games to pour over so I thought it would be great to have physical versions, but also partly because it was already laid out in a way that would work well for print (unlike some of my other games, which will take quite some wrangling in layout.)
I’m really pleased with how it turned out! I feel like there can be a lot to think about with printing, such as using the right colour format, bleed, proofs, and so on. Now maybe it’s because I have an art background and have done things like this before, but I didn’t find it too difficult. I suspect if I was making something larger than a zine I would need to brush up on my printing knowledge, but making something simple like this is not too bad. So if you’re thinking of making the leap to physical, I’d say have a go (on a small scale!)
Now where can you find these beauties? Well they are currently winging their way across the world (and hopefully not getting lost in the post…) and will be stocked in several places.
You can find them already at both Peregrine Coast Press (best for UK and EU peeps), and at Ratti Incantati (for those in Canada.) US pals, I’m hoping to get a stockist sorted soon!
I’m planning to get more of my games and adventures printed throughout the year, especially in time for Dragonmeet in December where I will be trading for the first time. Next in my grand plans is to finish off the artwork for Mycelium so I can get that printed as a pretty pretty mousey zine!
My Website and Etsy!
If that wasn’t enough excitement, I have been quietly working away at setting up a website.
With the uncertainty over social media, it was high time I set up somewhere central to direct people and now I can finally say that place is philippamort.co.uk
Regular newsletter readers might notice some familiar posts on the blog, and I’m also going to use it as another place to distribute my games - currently I’m only shipping to the UK while I finish figuring out everything that goes into international shipping, but that should change soon. You can also contact me there if you want to ask about reviews, commissions, or just have a question for me.
For the international crowd, so you are not dying of impatience, I’m also now on etsy. This will mostly be for fun artwork and stickers, but I currently also have some of my games on there while I finish sorting shipping on my website. It’s also where my lovely European pals can find things, because brexit is awful and makes everything ten times more difficult, so I’m gonna let Etsy worry about that for me.
Shrike Out
You may remember me talking about the latest Mausritter adventure I am working on; Butcher Bird. I was initially going to submit it to the Summer Bird Jam, but I decided to take some extra time on it. While it includes some of my usual comedy and silly mouse names, this adventure is definitely leaning into horror, and I decided it needed a bit more tweaking to really get the tone right.
I’m certainly not the fastest or most prolific writer out there, but I don’t mind taking things slowly if it means I can be really happy with the end result.
But, while we wait, here is the cool map that I finished drawing for the Butcher Bird adventure!
CW: mild gore/ impalement!
What do you reckon? Pretty rad right?
Till Next time
I’m at the research and making pretty pinterest board phase in several projects, so tune in next month for lots more news!
